One major attraction is the Sinai Desert with its fabulous mountains and Wadis. Trips in the desert can be made in a few hours or a few days.
Saint Catherine’s Monastery is a few hours away, at the foot of Mount Sinai, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It traces its origins back to the sixth century AD and is arguably the world’s oldest operational Christian monastery. It contains some of the earliest manuscripts in the world. The biblical Mount Sinai, where Moses received the Ten Commandments, is nearly 7,500 ft high but there are several higher peaks in this mountain range.
